A new study shows how the Connexx Hearing Profile fitting process leads to less fine-tuning time and improved patient satisfaction.

The Connexx Hearing Profile: Decrease fine-tuning time while increasing patient satisfaction

Audiometric values alone doesn't paint a full picture of your patient's listening preferences and attitudes. But a new study shows that incorporating the Connexx Hearing Profile into the fitting process leads to less fine-tuning time for the hearing care professional and improved patient satisfaction.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests audiometric data alone is a limited predictor of fitting success and patient satisfaction. By taking the patient’s cognitive ability, listening preferences, and attitudes into consideration, an even more customized first fit can be calculated.

Signia’s Connexx Hearing Profile is designed to further individualize first fit for each patient. This feature uses a short sound quiz and questionnaire to quickly assess the cognitive functions and preferences of the patient. The resulting personal hearing profile is combined with the patient’s audiometric data to propose one out of five first fit configurations. This precision first fit promotes better spontaneous acceptance and reduces the need for extensive fine tuning.

In a real-world field study, the Hearing Profile was shown to be a valuable tool for hearing care professionals (HCPs), not only by providing an individualized first fit with an appropriate target prescription, but also a means to leverage the cooperation between professionals and patients to result in improved fitting success.

The HCPs reported that using the Hearing Profile increased the patients’ acceptance in comparison to the standard process. The motivation of the patient during the fitting was positively influenced and the patients’ satisfaction increased as well. In particular, hearing instrument specialists could incorporate the information provided by the Hearing Profile into their work, which then led to a decrease of fine-tuning duration, while patients’ willingness to take the hearing aid devices home increased. Finally, the comprehensibility of the Hearing Profile and the supportive effect to their work was positively perceived by all HCPs.

The Connexx Hearing Profile also serves as an appropriate means for improving patient involvement in the fitting by actively providing individual information. In general, by using the Connexx Hearing Profile, they retrieved interesting facts about their hearing characteristics, and were motivated for the fitting process and the use of the hearing aid devices at home. Older and more experienced patients in particular benefited from the Connexx Hearing Profile with respect to these effects.
